Sometimes a single embrace can hold the memory of an entire journey. A goodbye at an airport. A reunion after years apart. A silent promise that distance will never erase what we carry in our hearts.
Painted on a vintage piece of luggage, The Sun and The Heaven speaks about migration, memory, and the invisible threads that keep us connected across borders and time. In the background, fragments of personal history emerge through collaged memories: an old letter, a pair of tied keys, traces of lives once shared.
The title comes from a passage of the I-Ching that appears within the painting itself:
“The sun and heaven share similar natures. Fire moving upward to heaven conveys an image of genuine friendliness towards one another.”
For me, this piece is about human connection — the warmth that survives separation, and the love that continues to travel with us wherever we go.
