The Church pays tribute to the Blessed Virgin Mary with the title of Our Lady, Mother of the Divine Shepherd. Our Lady is also known as the Divine Shepherdess, Divina Pastora or La Divine Bergère. There are several representations of Our Lady shepherding the flock of Christ.

In 1855, during a cholera epidemic that affected many families in Barquisimeto, Venezuela, the status of the Divina Pastora as the patron saint of the Lara state was established after desperate people prayed to her for help. It is said that Father José Macario Yépez offered himself before the Virgin as the last victim of the disease. Some accounts state that the priest died six months later, and then the epidemic left the city, while others indicate that his prayers stopped the epidemic immediately.

Today, we have had to bid farewell to many of our loved ones, lock ourselves in and distance ourselves in a time of great changes and reflection. It is an excellent opportunity to renew our faith, update the image of our beliefs and feel closer to God.
