Kally – Siming Zhu, from Shanghai, was 18 years old in the summer of 2017 when she came to study in Canada. The beginning of her journey in Kingston was a mix of excitement and sadness. She was initially enthusiastic about a fresh start in a new place, making friends and in a new environment, but soon she got homesick. The 12-hour time difference and the 14-hour flights to China made her connection with family and friends hard, and she started feeling sad every day. After four years at Queens University, she is now a competitive, hardworking professional currently working as a Financial Service Representative at CIBC. Part of her treasures is a Chinese red envelope with cash her aunt gave for good luck and her dolls that she keeps and enjoys.
