The youngest of 10 siblings from Jaen, Spain, Sonia was drawn to athletics by her marathon-running brother. Despite her father’s lack of support, she joined Jaen's National team, became an Athletic Trainer, and Technical Director of the Athletic Federation.  At 28, Sonia met Nacho, who started running due to her influence. They married quickly after his job transfer to Lorca. Moves to Toledo and Abu Dhabi followed, with their four kids. A job transfer led them to Cluj Napoca, Romania, where Sonia initially felt isolated, but they reunited in Bucharest, where she reconnected with her passion as a PE teacher. Canada was a difficult transition, complicated by the pandemic. They eventually settled in, joining running groups and making friends. After living in 6 cities, Sonia finds it hard to make and leave friends repeatedly. Despite these challenges, she fulfilled her lifelong dream of running a marathon in Ottawa in 2023.
