Carlos Ponce, an Anthropologist, arrived in Kingston in 2022 with his wife and their son, seeking stability and a brighter future. His academic background became a vital asset in understanding human behaviour, especially in his work with kids at the YMCA and as a soccer coach. A lifelong storyteller and aspiring filmmaker, Carlos dreamed of blending anthropology, literature, and philosophy into his creative work. However, immigration brought challenges, including career reinvention and an Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) diagnosis. Despite this, Carlos found purpose in teaching and mentoring children, using his empathy and creativity to guide them. One of his cherished techniques is teaching origami balloons, helping kids release sadness and practice mindfulness. Drawing from Andean traditions of honouring the past while walking together into an uncertain future, Carlos continues to inspire children and remains steadfast in his dream of telling stories that unite art, culture, and humanity.
